How does a purification-based DualPore™ Metal Scavenger work?

The purification-based metal scavenger uses our high-purity “DualPore™ Silica” (reference: “Material Strengths”) as an adsorbent to efficiently remove metals and residual catalysts.

Effective removal of residual metal catalysts and impurities are required for the research, development, and manufacturing of pharmaceuticals and fine chemicals (compound synthesis). This is especially true within the pharmaceutical industry, where ICH Q3D guidelines have been significantly strengthened in recent years, and residual substances such as frequently used palladium catalysts have become a major pollutant. High-purity quality is required not only for the materials used in semiconductor manufacturing, but also for general cleaning fluids and solvents.

Silica’s High-Purity and Resistance to Organic Solvents and High Temperatures

The base material of DualPore™ Metal Scavenger, “DualPore™ Silica” has minimal contamination concerns due to its
1) 99.99%+ (extremely high) purity level
2) Proprietary manufacturing process that uses semiconductor grade materials

DualPore™ Silica is also highly resistant to organic solvents and high temperatures, and is thus a stable material that does not swell or elute unlike polymer adsorbents.

Why is Flow Processing > Batch Processing?

Thanks to its low back pressure, the DualPore™ metal scavenger can rapidly flow-process large sample volumes (ton) at a high adsorption rate without special equipment, even in flow purification.

Conventional metal scavengers require long-term batch adsorption treatment, during which synthesized compounds can be denatured and the operating rate of the facility drops, requiring additional time and effort to filter and collect the used metal scavenger.

In contrast, the DualPore™ metal scavenger enables simple, efficient adsorption treatment; just pass the reagent through a prefilled cartridge of DualPore™ material, and you will have a ready-to-use device that can perform flow purification under low pressure (<= several atm), even for highly viscous organic solvents and compounds. Adsorbed metals can also be recovered as desired.

Multiple Adsorbents Targeting Transition Metals

For transition metals, we currently offer chemically modified adsorbents with SH (Mercaptopropyl), N2 (Diamine), N3 (Triamine), etc. (see the table below). Excellent adsorption performance can be observed due to the effect of the DualPore™ carrier, and treatment with a residue concentration of less than ppm can be achieved with flow treatment.

We Look Forward to Your Requests for New Adsorbents

By coupling your current adsorbent carrier (silica or polymer) with DualPore™ silica, vast improvement of adsorption performance is possible. Like conventional silica gel, DualPore™ silica reacts with silanol coupling agents and can be subjected to various surface modifications to further meet and enhance your product.

We look forward to receiving requests for the development of adsorbents that meet your company’s needs. Please consider using DualPore™ to your advantage.
